Being a teaching assistant this past school years has been a very BRIGHT experience indeed.
My roles as a partner of the main teacher involved interacting with the class in this specific and general activities, and many other that arose along the way:
- Assist children in embarking and disembarking from the cars and accompany them to their classrooms.
- Ensure development of positive relationships with children to promoting the self-esteem and self-discipline.
- Provide comfort to distressed children through compassion and tact.
- Organize the classroom and plan intellectual activities for children, per the lead teacher's requests.
- Ensure that the classroom is aesthetically attractive so that students enjoy their surroundings while learning lessons.
- Assist the lead teacher in imparting classroom instruction based on predefined curriculum.
- Observe each child to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate individual learning and growth.
- Assist the lead teacher in ensuring the physical, social, cognitive and educational excellence of children.
- Instruct and supervise children in social and developmental activities indoors and outdoors.
- Help feeding and changing the children, and generally provide one-on-one attention when needed.
- Support children during lunchtime and ensure that their nutritional needs are fulfilled.
- Help evaluating students' social development and physical well-being.
- Record any crucial observations regarding student development and ensure that it is communicated to the lead teacher.
- Assist lead teacher in handling evaluation and creating reports.
- Be prepared to take on the role of lead teacher when needed.
